Stream: Best of October 2015 *new Miike Snow, Goldroom, Skrillex & The Game, and Outasight
Ok so below is a 50 track playlist of my favorite songs that got released in October 2015 on Soundcloud. It's a huge variety and below the playlist, I'll touch on some that were personally sent to me or from artists that we've written on here before and are big fans. A-Trak's latest hit "We All Fall Down" feat. Jamie Lidell has become one of the fastest-growing songs of his career. The buzzing collaboration has soared to over 4 million plays on Spotify in a little over a month, and is set to continue with new versions coming via Fool's Gold Friday, October 30th. I put it last on the playlist, it's an infectious dance song. Cool Uncle, the cross-generational duo of R&B legend (and Dilla-sample mainstay) Bobby Caldwell and multiple Grammy award winning producer Jack Splash, have just shared another single from their forthcoming self-titled debut album (dropping via Fresh Young Minds on November 13). The song "Breaking Up" pairs the duo with legendary soulstress Deneice Williams ("Let's Hear It For the Boy," "Free," "Silly") and emerging Floridian hip hop talent Eric Biddines. I put two tracks from this dynamic duo, they are FIRE! Kosha Dillz made a song for Back To The Future Day and it's dope! It was released on October 21st and I had to include it because he's not only my friend but a great engaging entertainer. It started with a homemade computer. Filled with dust and dirty beats, the machine hadn't connected to the Internet since Silicon Valley was a private practice in Beverly Hills. Yet from it emerged Spirit Animal: a chaotic combination of rock and pop, fueled by the unruly aesthetics of psych and funk. Last month, the Brooklyn-based four piece arrive with their second track, "True Believer": from their new EP,World War IV. Indie rock band Western Scene, led by Tom Pritchard and Emily Wilder, have released their new single "Believe" off of their upcoming EP. The track premiered on Atwood Magazine and can now be streamed on Western Scene's official Soundcloud. Western Scene was created 3 years ago in Los Angeles as the brainchild of singer/guitarist Tom Pritchard. Starting off he partnered with producer Hugo Nicolson (RadioHead/Primal Scream) to write a debut record with the help of Joey Waronker (Beck) and Jon Hischke (Broken Bells). The music fused Folk/Americana with subtle pop sensibilities and was heavily influenced by his many years writing and playing in bands. The single "Same as you" gained notoriety on speciality radio and was on KROQ's top five local tracks for 6 weeks. Western Scene's other single "For you" was featured on the season finale of 90210. During the process of creating a music video for their 2015 single "See What You Want To," Tom met Emily Wilder (Wet & Reckless) and began writing the follow up EP with her. The EP is set to be released in early 2016. After the success of the dark, utterly compelling and debut single ‘Black Seaweed’ from forthcoming EP “Opus Opalus” MKO SUN releases her latest single ‘Michiko’. The single combines the contrasting beauty of piano melodies with a heady bass line, set, as always as the rich backdrop to Hannah’s sparkling imagination lyrics and storytelling. White Sea shared her new song "Never a Woman". Stereogum premiered the track, declaring, "'Never A Woman' is practically guaranteed to have you grooving from side to side and might even elicit some hallelujah hands." The Game's The Documentary 2 came out last month with a bonus album, The Documentary 2.5, up for pre-order featuring Game & Skrillex's unexpected collab "El Chapo" as an instant-grat. It's a dope trap song that you need to hear! Spawned from a community of friends, HOLY OYSTERS are five young men who bonded over a shared love of jazz, hip-hop and pop music. Using transformed guitars and powerful ecto-plasmic analog synthesizers, HOLY OYSTERS make intelligent and forward-thinking psych-rock influenced by the sounds of the 60's and 70's. Reminds me of Tame Impala and Jagwar Ma. Lastly meet, Coast Modern, the L.A. duo that combines upbeat synth-pop with meandering lyrics that capture the lackadaisical nature of, well, life; stream their debut song, "Hollow Life". Almost forgot to mention new album from singer/rapper/awesome performer Outasight. Check out his album, Big Trouble, out now on iTunes. I put two songs off the album on the playlist as I'm a huge fan of this artist, he's highly entertaining.
