Review: Thurz and Chuck Inglish at The Well *Packed house
Whenever I think of Thurz, I immediately think of the hook in his song, "Goddamn goddamn" and how catchy that hip-hop song is. Last Friday I got to witness Los Angeles rapper Thurz and his band perform live at The Well in Downtown Los Angeles opening for Chuck Inglish (of The Cool Kids) at the Red Bull Sound Select pop-up Show Friday night. It was my first hip-hop show since March and definitely well worth it. Read more below. Rising LA artist Thurz kicked off the night, performing rousing new material with six-piece band The S.O.M.E., for the first time in his hometown of LA, including the track "High Castle,". Thurz has tons of energy, and although I hardly knew the words to his songs, it was easy to catch along as he got the crowd real into it, singing along to "Gotdamn Gotdamn" and everybody feeling chilled out during his latest hit, "High Castle" (prodcued by Christian Rich). His band was super talented, with everybody in the band doing a brief solo near the end of his set. Stream "Gotdamn Gotdamn" and "High Castle" below. Rapper Chuck Inglish previewed his long-anticipated forthcoming solo album, "Convertibles," for a packed house at the pop-up show Friday night. In addition to playing several tracks from his new album including "Elevators" and "Dreamy," Inglish – who co-founded The Cool Kids – also treated the audience to some classic Cool Kids tunes like "Black Mags". He was joined on stage by Polyester the Saint, who's featured on the new album along with Chromeo, Chance the Rapper, Action Bronson and more. Stream Convertibles (iTunes) below. The album is real good quality and I hope Inglish finds success as a solo artist with his latest release.
