Review: Kero Kero Bonito and Skylar Spence live at The Echo
Last Thursday, I was in for a wild ride of alternative music as alternative dance pop trio Kero Kero Bonito and indie alternative pop band Skylar Spence performed at The Echo in Los Angeles. Even though the show started late and I couldn't catch all of Skylar Spence's set because of work the next morning, I still had a great time and discovered a new band I hadn't heard before, Kero Kero Bonito. We got there as the opener performed a Blondie cover to close out their set and then we thought we were about to see SKylar Spence at his scheduled 10pm set time but instead came out London weird dance pop trio Kero Kero Bonito. They got the crowd of hipsters dancing and swaying their hips as their rhythmic beats, easy to sing along lyrics and overall fun, very child-like vibe captured the attention of a diverse yet attentive audience. The lyrics sung from lead singer Sarah are very simple as she looks like a teenage girl singing about silly little things like taking pictures, having fun at parties by dancing and just having a good time in life. It's really simple lyrics yet it's fun and easy to get behind plus the beats by Gus and Jamie of the trio are on point fun. Listening to them is kind of like the soundtrack of some lifestyle video game, as long as you are living a good and happy life, you will hear Kero Kero Bonito. Below are the tracks I remember and enjoy the most from their set. Next came up Skylar Spence at 11:15pm, a little later than I wanted but he was still awesome regardless, even if I only caught half of his set. They are a fun indie pop/rock band that has tunes it's easy to move your body to and the hooks are catchy. This band is on the Carpark Records label, same as Toro Y Moi and I see why, they have a fun laid back sound that's easy to sing along to. Here's my favorites I heard Skylar Spence perform.
