Review: Aer, RDGLDGRN and New Beat Fund live at El Rey Theatre

Short link
Last Friday I saw three impressive up-and-coming bands in New Beat FundRDGLDGRN and AER at El Rey Theatre. It was my first time seeing all three of these bands and my first time at the Los Angeles music venue; read my review below. When we got there, New Beat Fund had just started their set. I didn't know what to expect from this band I hadn't heard of before but I actually liked it as they had more energy than I expected from local skateboarding stoners making upbeat vibes that had some catchy fun moments. Overall New Beat Fund was a great way to kick off the concert as they have tons of energy, really get the crowd into it and have much potential. This LA group is currently touring with AER and and has toured with Blink 182 with constant support from Red Bull Records. Keep an eye on them and in the meantime, watch their latest video for "Peachez" and "Scare Me", two of their most popular and catchiest songs. Also stream their latest project, ($) Coinz EP. Next came the group I was most excited about, DMV-area indie go-go rockers RDGLDGRN (formerly The Five One). I've been following these guys since 2010 and was so excited to see them live and guess what, they didn't disappoint! They had the most energy of the night and even though most of the crowd didn't seem to know their songs, I thoroughly enjoyed their set as they rocked out with hits like "I Love Lamp", "Million Fans" and "Doing The Most". Watch videos to my two favorites "I Love Lamp" and "Doing The Most" below. Lastly came the headliner, Aer, bringing their "Fresh Aer movement" all over the country. These chill-hoppers continued the theme of high energy tunes to get the crowd hype and their all ages demographic seemed to be really digging their vibes. Aer is a fun band that is carving a solid niche catering to White middle-upper class white college students and their popularity only continues to grow with each release and as they continue to tour. I recommend catching them if you dig their classics from their 2011 debut, The Reach, like "Feel I Bring", "The Reach" and "Come and Go" as well as "Floats My Boat" from 2012's The Bright Side LP. Watch videos for my two favorites, "Feel I Bring" and "Floats My Boat".
